In the spirit of giving back to the community, each year SWIFT and Sibos support a local charity in the Sibos host city.
This year’s official SWIFT and Sibos charity is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB).
The Wishing Well
To raise awareness of the chosen charity among Sibos delegates, each Sibos participant will be given a postcard with a token. We encourage everyone to show their support for the BGCB by dropping their token in the Wishing Well, located on the SWIFT stand (E80).For each token received, SWIFT will donate 10 euro on your behalf to the BGCB. And for your show of support, you will be given a Sibos 2014 memorabilia coin.
A small token from you, can mean a world of difference for the families served by the BGCB.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston is to help young people, especially those who need us most, build strong character and realise their full potential as responsible citizens and leaders.
BGCB operates 11 Clubs and serves approximately 15,000 children and teens, ages 6 to 18, through six life-enhancing programmes: Arts; Education; Leadership; Life Skills; Sports, Fitness and Recreation; and Technology.
During the summer, Camp Harbor View on Boston’s Long Island, provides a fun and safe environment where youth can challenge themselves, make new friends and experience a world beyond their neighbourhoods, many of which see an increase in violent activity. The Camp programmes focus on: sports & fitness, the arts, leadership development and environmental education.
Additionally, BGCB’s YouthConnect programme places licensed clinical social workers at police stations to provide prevention and intervention services and referrals to the city’s high-risk youth and their families. Since 1996, YouthConnect social workers have been helping young people develop more trusting relationships with caring adults, and offer them choices to keep them out of the Juvenile Justice system.
SWIFT’s donation
SWIFT’s donation will specifically benefit the leadership development programmes, Torch Club and Keystone Club, which give youth avenues for academic success, career planning, and community service.
The programmes are led by professional, full-time Teen Directors, Pre-Teen Specialists and Masters-level licensed social workers.
BGCB is committed to ensuring their clubs empower youth to become responsible, caring citizens who sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, cultivate leadership skills, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others’ cultural identities.
