Virtual Sibos

The 2011 Innotribe Start-up Challenge – taking place during Innotribe@Sibos – is designed to introduce the most promising financial technology and financial services start-ups to the SWIFT community, to reduce the gap between early-stage start-ups and the community they are looking to serve.

On September 21, 10 finalists, selected from more than 100 start-ups (from 15 plus countries) by a team of expert judges including venture capitalists, financial consulting experts and media, will present to an invitation-only audience of decision makers from banks. Based on those presentations, on 22 September, two winners will each be presented with $50,000. Participants can see the winners and hear their pitches during the Innotribe Closing Parade on 22 September at 14:00 in the Innotribe space.

“The Start-Up Challenge is a vital component of Innotribe’s work to nurture new solutions to common financial industry challenges,” says Kosta Peric, Head of Innovation at SWIFT, “and Sibos is the ideal environment in which to foster collaborative engagement with the most exciting new propositions coming out of the start-up community. This year’s finalists represent innovation at its best.”

The Re: a social currency in action

Wondering about the impact of so-called ‘social currencies’? During Innotribe@Sibos in Toronto you can experience the evolution of one – the Sibos-only currency the ‘Reputone’ (or ‘Re’) – first-hand.

As its name suggests, the Re – based on tokens - is a reputation currency. You can accumulate Res and give them to others. Every time you network, exchange knowledge or participate in a session during Innotribe, it’s an opportunity to give or receive Res. You can give them to the speakers you like, or the people around you with whom you talk and share opinions. You can show your appreciation of others and acknowledge their opinions by giving them Res, thus building their reputation – and they can do the same for you.

There will also be plenty of opportunities to spend your Res in a trade market at 11:00 on Thursday 22 September in the Innotribe space, where speakers and influencers will be ready to offer their services, time and knowledge to people who have earned the Res to ‘pay’ for them.

A major theme of Innotribe@Sibos is the future of money. If you want to better understand the role of your company in that future, then get your hands on some Res and be part of a social currency in action!
