Financial inclusion: Increasing the pace
During his closing keynote at Sibos 2014 Boston, Bill Gates put a stake in the ground by calling the global financial community to include 2 billion of unbanked and underserved. What progresses have been made so far? How can we accelerate the process over the next three years?
Kosta Peric from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Udayan Goyal from Apis Partners will be joined by Chris Hamilton from BankServ Africa, Christine Duhaime from Digital Finance Institute, and Patrick Walsh from Greenlight Planet to look at making financial services accessible at affordable costs to all individuals and businesses, regardless of net worth and size.
From building pro-poor financial regulations at country / region / world levels, deploying efficient real-time payment platforms processing billions of low value payments, to understanding the needs of poorer populations when it comes to developing new financial applications – opportunities abound.
