Financial institutions have long been the leading targets for cybercrime, but the threat landscape for financial institutions is constantly evolving. The explosion of mobile banking and the internet of things has exponentially is expanding the attack surface. At the same time, the proliferation of what were once exclusively nation-state capabilities on the black market has made these advanced tools available to a wide range of malicious actors. Defenses continue to evolve, but attackers do not give up, they adapt. Better training, resources, and new technologies have given financial institutions more tools to defend their networks, but attackers find new ways in. This presentation looks at the forces shaping the threat landscape for financial institutions – changes in the attack surface, attacker incentives, and defenses – and what they mean for the industry.

This lecture will be repeated on Thursday at 10am.
