In 2016 the SWIFT Institute launched the inaugural Student Challenge in the UK. It was a great success, and we brought the winning team to Sibos Geneva. At the beginning of 2017 we launched the second Student Challenge, this time for students enrolled in Canadian universities and colleges. And instead of only bringing the winners to Sibos Toronto, we are bringing the best student teams to pitch their ideas and let you, Sibos delegates, choose the winner.

The 2017 SWIFT Institute Student Challenge asked students to address a real world challenge being faced by banks. We focused on arguable the biggest issue our industry faces: cyber-security.

Internet, mobile and electronic banking are three of the key channels used by retail and corporate customers to connect to their bank. Cybercriminals are increasingly testing these channels for gaps in security to commit fraud. How can bank channels be secured against every increasing cyber-attacks? This is the challenge we posed to students.

Spread over two back to back sessions on the afternoon of Wednesday 18th October, each student team will pitch their idea to the audience, and a panel of expert judges. You the audience will have the opportunity to vote for your favourite. The overall winner receives a grand prize of CAD 20,000. Come and hear what innovative ideas the next generation of experts have to offer. You can join one or both sessions - each session will have different teams of students pitch ideas.
