IT innovation raises various new challenges to financial authorities, including central banks. In this session, we point out the following four issues and discuss the new growth opportunities for financial services and economic activities:
(i) Impacts on Financial Markets,
(ii) Impacts on Real Economy and Prices,
(iii) Importance of Cyber Security and Data Protection, and
(iv) Impacts on Currency, Payments and Settlements.
Especially, point (iv) is now gathering great attention as "Crypto-currencies" and "central bank digital currencies". We’d like to elaborate the updated global discussions on to what extent central banks should provide their payment and settlement infrastructures to society.
