As we count down to Sibos 2017, I’m thrilled about the range of speakers that we’ve assembled this year.

If you haven’t already done so, I’d recommend that you take a look at the speakers list to help you plan your activities throughout Sibos week. There’s many that you won’t want to miss.
The roster includes hundreds of the industry’s leading experts, but also top names from other sectors, who will bring new perspectives and learnings to the table.
This includes Admiral Michelle Howard, who we’re delighted to say will be introducing the Innotribe programme. Admiral Howard is a pioneer who has had a stellar career in the US military. She took command of USS Rushmore in March 1999, becoming the first African American woman to command a ship in the US Navy.
And in 2014 she became the first woman to become a four-star admiral. It will be fascinating to hear her story first-hand and see how it inspires financial leaders.
Banking innovators
Another speaker I’m eager to hear from is Dave McKay, President and CEO of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), who will be delivering the opening plenary session at 11:00 on Monday 16 October.
It’s a real honour to have one of the world’s most lauded bankers opening Sibos. Dave has demonstrated at RBC that by having the right tools and processes in place, financial institutions can stay ahead of the innovation curve and create the banks of tomorrow.
He will be drawing on his background as a coder to discuss how he is driving innovation at RBC, providing the perfect start to a week of high-level discussions on how the industry can build for the future.
Internet royalty
On the Tuesday morning, we welcome Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who will be speaking at one of the Innotribe Sense Maker sessions, a new session format that mixes inspiring content with networking.
Sir Berners-Lee needs little introduction. A graduate of Oxford University, he invented the World Wide Web while at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, in 1989. His specifications of URIs, HTTP and HTML were refined as Web technology spread.
He is also a Director of the World Wide Web Foundation, which was launched in 2009 to coordinate efforts to further the potential of the Web to benefit humanity.
We round off Sibos week with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who will close the conference at 16:00 on Thursday 19 October.
For more than 20 years, Satya has been at the forefront of the tech revolution, and worked at the heart of one of the defining companies of this century.
He knows what it takes to build a game changing company, and that harnessing disruptive technologies is crucial to enabling businesses to remain relevant amidst the disruption of a changing world.
The financial services industry is of course undergoing its own tech revolution, which has created huge challenges but also opportunities.
Satya will share his experiences and learnings with delegates, helping them to build a stronger future for our industry. It will be a great way to end what promises to be a very successful week of high-level discussions and collaboration.
See you later this month!
