As Sibos prepares to welcome the global financial community to Frankfurt from 29 September to 2 October, sustainability is firmly at the heart of this year’s agenda.
A three-pillar strategy for change
Sibos continues to build on its robust ESG strategy, anchored in three core pillars: protecting the environment, caring for the community and promoting inclusion. “We’re committed to leading purposeful change,” says Alan Rowan, Head of Sibos. “We’ve already made great progress and our long-term aim is to be one of the most sustainable global events and lead change across the events industry.”
Measuring impact with clear goals
Between 2019 and 2022 we reduced the Sibos carbon footprint by over 20%, and we’re not stopping there.
Each year, we set measurable KPIs to track our progress. For Frankfurt, these targets will guide efforts to reduce environmental impact and enhance community engagement.
2025 initiatives
Choosing Frankfurt: A city aligned with ESG values
Frankfurt was selected as a host city not only for its status as a financial hub but also for its strong ESG credentials. Messe Frankfurt, the event venue, has committed to the Net Zero Events Pledge and operates under the EMAS environmental management system.
Supporting local organisations
Sibos 2025 will partner with Children for a Better World, a charity tackling child poverty across Germany. The Discoverer Programme supports over 5,000 children and young people in high-need areas, providing food, care and a sense of belonging.
In Frankfurt, Sibos will support Kinder im Zentrum Gallus, which currently cares for 25 children. Sibos will sponsor 200 recreational activities including music, theatre, and sports sessions, as well as homework support.
Promoting biodiversity and climate resilience
Sibos is also supporting WWF’s nature conservation project on the Elbe Island of Krautsand. This initiative aims to restore habitats for protected species and enhance climate resilience by developing reed beds and tidal forests, which help store carbon dioxide.
Engaging exhibitors and participants
Exhibitors are encouraged to follow the Sibos Sustainability Event Guide and sign up to the Sibos Sustainability Pledge by using our new carbon calculator tool to help measure and reduce the carbon footprint of their stands.
Participants can also contribute by bringing reusable water bottles, choosing plant-based meals, using their free public transport pass, and reducing paper waste through the digital Newscorner.
Advancing inclusion
We cater to delegates from all over the world, with a conference programme that offers something for everyone. We’re supporting the next generation of talented finance professionals with our Talent Thursday scheme, which grants access to the conference on Thursday at a reduced rate.
We’ve also invited 50 students from local finance, economics and management schools and universities to be part of the Sibos experience.
The Sibos Talent Accelerator Route (STAR) scholarship is now in its sixth year, supporting more than 200 women on their path to leadership. This year more than 40 women from 20 countries will join a special Sibos week programme to expand their networks and advance their careers.
Speaker panels will reflect the diversity of the global Sibos community and we also have a dedicated diversity, equity and inclusion networking event. Mark your calendars for Wednesday 1 October, when Olympic legend Katarina Witt will share her story. A two-time Olympic gold medallist and one of the most celebrated figure skaters of all time, Katarina captivated the world with her grace, determination and artistry on the ice. From six consecutive European Championships to Emmy-winning performances and bestselling memoirs, her journey from East Germany to global icon is nothing short of inspiring.
Sibos 2025 takes place in Frankfurt from 29 September to 2 October.
