UNSW Canberra Space is Australia’s largest and leading space program, with end-to-end space mission capability that leverages the global paradigm shift towards agile, smart satellites. Our team has a track record of 4 spacecraft (1 in-orbit, 1 awaiting launch and 2 launching 2019), underpinned by innovative space research. We perform high impact S&T development to couple disruptive technology (including artificial intelligence and quantum encryption) with space to deliver actionable information direct to the user, to meet user needs and opportunities.
Skykraft is a commercial company jointly owned by UNSW Canberra Space staff and UNSW, to complete spacecraft missions for a variety of applications and services. Together, UNSW Canberra Space and Skykraft represent a seamless transition from research and innovation to prototype to operational capability.

BRMM - Buccaneer Risk Mitigation Mission is UNSW Canberra Space’s first cubesat mission, jointly developed with DST Group, risk mitigating the deployment of a very large flexible antenna, to receive and calibrate Australia’s JORN over-the horizon radar network from space. The 3U cubesat mission also serves to provide orbital behaviour and ground-based surveillance data, contributing to the science of Space Situational Awareness.
M1 - UNSW Canberra Space’s second cubesat mission, funded by the RAAF. M1 is a 3U cubesat that will use Commercial Off The Shelf and in-house radio technologies to receive maritime AIS beacon and aviation ADS-B beacon signals from Low Earth Orbit, demonstrating space-based Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) technology to inform the future space capabilities of the Australian Defence Force.
