Delegates should be aware that the Geneva Department of Security and Economy has designated Sunday 25 September as a Car Free Day in the city.
This applies to all motorised transportation, except taxis and journey buses, and traffic restrictions will be in place between 06:00 and 17:00.
The Car Free Day coincides with European Mobility Week, which will be held under the banner of ‘Smart and sustainable mobility – an investment for Europe’.
The idea is to help protect the environment by highlighting alternative methods of transport. The initiative also promotes health and well-being by encouraging people to walk through the city – discovering sights and experiences they may otherwise not find.
The city will be taking advantage of the quieter streets by organising a number of sporting activities, such as volleyball and football, and food stalls. There will also be a picnic on Le Pont du Mont-Blanc.
We are working in close cooperation with the Geneva authorities, and also our transport partner MCI, to ensure that Sibos transportation will run with as little disruption as possible.
On Sunday 25 September, there will be a shuttle bus service to take delegates from Geneva airport to the official Sibos hotels. It will run every 30 minutes between 08:00 and 23:00, and the drivers will be aware of any route changes that result from Car Free Day.
Greeting staff will be stationed in the arrival hall and will direct delegates to the shuttles.
The Sibos hotels will also still be accessible by taxi or private limousine, provided that the delegate holds a hotel booking.
Please contact MCI Geneva at sibos2016@mci-group.com for further details.
