Our new Sustainability Pledge is an opportunity for all Sibos participants to work together to #LeadTheChange. Here we explain how it works, and the Sibos team provides inspiration on how you can contribute.
The Sibos Sustainability Pledge is part of our #LeadTheChange campaign, a long-term commitment to protect the environment, care for the community and promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
To make your pledge we’re asking you to choose at least five actions from a varied selection of options. Whether you use your free public transport pass to get around Toronto, support our charity partner or attend a conference session on diversity, equity and inclusion, every action counts.
To participate please log in to the Sibos website or App (the pledge details can be found under ‘More’ in the app). You can then view the full list of pledge options and select your choices.
Once you’ve made your commitments, the Sibos Pledge icon will appear on your participant profile to show you’re taking part. You can also use #PledgeWithSibos on your social media channels to show your commitment to #LeadTheChange.
The Swift team attending Sibos are all signing up, and here some of them outline the commitments they’re making.
Melissa Sternberg, Global Head of ESG at Swift

“Sustainability is embedded across Sibos and I’m proud we have so many conference sessions on ESG topics, including demystifying carbon credits and building standards into green finance.
“I’m excited to be part of the sustainability pledge and commit to taking public transport around Toronto and eating the vegetarian meal options provided throughout the week. Not only are these actions good for the planet, they’re also great for your health, so it just makes sense!
“Impactful change starts with an idea or small action that becomes amplified across communities, so I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to #LeadTheChange.”
Manu Wachter, Global Head of DEI at Swift

“I’m really looking forward to the IDEA networking event on 20 September. We need to approach inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility with a focus on valuing all identities. For a culture to change, everyone needs to align around new norms of true inclusion and behave accordingly. Majority groups have a special part to play in moving the needle.
“This event is an opportunity to share bold ideas on how the financial industry can move forward to help people, businesses and society at large thrive.
“By learning from each other’s successes and stumbles alike, we can build a community that takes meaningful action and achieves measurable progress.”
Jaime Lee, Head of Sibos at Swift

“Sibos is about community and I love meeting people from different countries, different backgrounds and with different perspectives.
“I’ll be connecting with lots of new people while I’m on site. Whether at our networking events, dedicated meeting points or over lunch in the food hall there are so many opportunities to say hello to new faces.
“Our networking tools are here to help. All participants, including digital pass holders, have access to the participant list. And if you’re joining us in person you can share contact details by simply scanning the QR code on the participant badges. Get ready to expand your network!”
Stéphanie Gerniers, Senior Events and Communications Specialist at Swift

“I like to travel with my reusable water bottle to avoid plastic waste and for Sibos 2023 there’s an extra incentive.
“Water stations are located around the venue. Every time you refill your bottle you can scan a special QR code, using either the Fill it Forward App or the camera on your smartphone, and Sibos will donate to WWF-Canada’s Seed Orchard Program.
“The project does great work to help reverse biodiversity loss and restore damaged ecosystems across Canada. This is such a simple win. You can rehydrate, cut down on waste and support a good cause.”
Innes Macleod, Swift's Discover & Innotribe Manager

“In Toronto I’ll be heading to the Lead the change village to meet the team from our charity partner SickKids Foundation, the fundraising arm for The Hospital for Sick Children.
“Because mental health is such an important issue, both from a work and personal perspective, we’ve chosen to support the hospital’s Garry Hurvitz Centre for Brain & Mental Health.
“The Centre provides invaluable support to Canadian children with mental health challenges, and their research informs therapies to help future generations too. Please pop by to find out more and consider making a donation, which will be rewarded with a tasty cookie!”
Register for Sibos 2023 today.
