The Sibos 5k Run – the perfect warm up for Wednesday at Sibos

Dame Kelly Holmes shares her tips for runners

Runners of all abilities can register for the Sibos 5k, which takes place at 06:00 on Wednesday 25 September. This healthy, social activity is the perfect start to a busy Sibos day. It will give you the opportunity to explore the area around ExCeL London and to meet other members of the Sibos community.

The run is also an important part of the Sibos campaign to fund 7,000 hours of care for The Honeypot Children’s Charity. Sponsor SIX is kindly donating two hours of Honeypot care per registered runner.

Starting and ending at Royal Victoria Square, the course will take you on a scenic journey through the famous docklands, with morning views of London over the River Thames. You’ll catch views of the Royal Victoria Bridge, The Emirates Air Line cable car and the ExCeL London from the outside.

Sibos Views from the Top speaker and double British Olympic Gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes has given Sibos runners some top tips to help tackle the course:

  1. Take on fluids

It’s crucial to replace fluids during a run, dehydration can be detrimental to your performance. Use your reusable Sibos water bottle to hydrate, before, during and after the run to stay on top form.

  1. Lay out your gear the night before

Dame Kelly always lays out her kit the night before, it’s her pre-race superstition. Whether or not it brings you luck, with a 06:00 start time, organising your running gear the night before will save valuable time!

  1. Feeling nervous?

That means your adrenaline is pumping. Dame Kelly says nerves are a good thing, as it means your “flight or fight” response has been activated and you’re ready to run. And don’t worry, the race is open to all, whether you plan to run or walk, everyone is welcome.

  1. Music is your friend

Dame Kelly loves running to 80s club classics like ‘Push It’ by Salt-N-Pepa - find some music that works for you!

  1. Have fun!

The Sibos 5k is a great way to start your Sibos Wednesday, whether racing against colleagues or using it as a chance to network, but just like Dame Kelly, remember to smile and have fun!

All Sibos delegates have the opportunity to win a fantastic meet & greet experience with Dame Kelly as part of the onsite Honeypot fundraising activities. At the meetings points within the exhibition halls there will be delicious honeycakes for sale, made with honey from local London beehives. Every Sibos attendee who purchases a cake, or who makes a donation, will have the chance to win one of a selection of prizes. For every £3 you donate you will contribute 30 minutes of support for the young carers who rely on Honeypot.
