PRESS RELEASE
Brussels, 3 October 2017 – Each year, Sibos teams up with a charity in the host city to give something back to the local community. This year’s chosen charity is SKETCH, an arts-based community enterprise in Toronto.
SKETCH engages young people from across Canada who are living homeless or on the margins and helps them to develop in the arts so that they can lead in building creative communities, and shape a brighter future.
Sibos will provide a platform for SKETCH to amplify their #ArtTransforms message with the international financial community. For the 2017 Art at Sibos project, SKETCH’s artists will be sharing their work with Sibos delegates.
The Sibos Art Gallery, located on the bridge that connects the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s (MTCC) North and South Buildings, will feature unique artworks by SKETCH. There will be ten pieces in total, with five displayed at any one time during Sibos week.
“Young people navigating poverty, homelessness and marginalisation have important perspectives and contributions to share,” said SKETCH Artistic Director, Phyllis Novak.
“So we’re thrilled that five participating SKETCH visual artists have been given an international platform at Sibos 2017, to exhibit vibrant, thought-provoking artwork for the global financial community. Taking notice of and engaging marginalised voices not only supports young people’s passage out of poverty and homelessness, but drives local economies and creates inclusive neighbourhoods and communities.”
Sven Bossu, Head of Sibos, SWIFT, added: “Engaging with the local community is a big part of Sibos. The creative, community-driven and entrepreneurial spirit that drives SKETCH embodies Sibos and this year’s theme: Building for the Future. We hope that delegates will be inspired to establish creative communities of their own in order to understand the forces impacting the financial world and solve the challenges we face.”
Sibos delegates can also support SKETCH by playing the ice hockey-themed digital game at the SWIFT stand. SWIFT will donate 30 Euros for each game played.
Sibos 2017 Toronto will be taking place at the MTCC from 16-19 October.
