We sit down with Christy Hernandez from the Sibos conference team to discuss what the Sibos community can expect from this year’s programme.
Christy, how would you sum up this year’s conference programme in 30 seconds?
The theme for 2023 is ‘Collaborative finance in a fragmented world’ and we have something for everyone! Whether you work in payments, treasury, fintech, compliance, data or FX, we’re covering the topics that really matter to the future of your business.
Over four days you’ll hear thought-provoking debates and big picture outlooks from hundreds of expert speakers, covering everything from ESG standardisation to cyber security, digital currencies and the advancing technologies that are really moving the dial.
Can you give us some examples of speakers appearing in Toronto?
We’re excited to have Brian Moynihan, CEO of Bank of America, open the event. He has such valuable industry experience, and hearing his insights will be the perfect start to the week.
The Inside Leadership sessions are also a must, with senior leaders from CIBC, Citi, IBM, Payments Canada, RBC and Visa all taking part.
In addition to this, we have the new CEO panel, where experts from CDS, DTCC and Euroclear will debate the most attractive opportunities and greatest concerns surrounding the move to T+1.
These are just a few examples, as you’ll find excellent speakers across all 11 stages and we’re adding more names to the programme each day. It’s a great mix of experts in finance plus some really inspiring speakers from other fields.
What session formats will people see this year?
Many of our popular session streams are back and we have over 250 conference sessions in total. Our Big Issue Debates will get under the skin of important topics such as technology and data, G20 cross-border payment targets, sustainable business practices and geopolitical resilience.
The industry sessions will cover a wide variety of the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. From AI to Unique Transaction Identifiers, it’s almost an A to Z of finance!
We also have Spotlight sessions, Exhibitor & Discover sessions, the Sibos Academy and of course Swift Innotribe.
We’re really keen for the audience to get involved in the discussions so we’re including Q&As and polls in a number of sessions. All you need to do is download the latest version of the Sibos App to take part!
#LeadTheChange is the Sibos campaign to drive sustainability and diversity at the event and across the financial industry. How is this reflected in the programme?
The Lead The Change campaign is embedded into our speaker and conference topic choices. We aim to have a well-balanced mix of speakers, and there are some crucial diversity and sustainability issues on the agenda. These include a Spotlight session on empowerment for the financially excluded, discussing how our industry can overcome pay gaps, cultural and societal mindsets, and a lack of educational opportunities to create a more inclusive and prosperous society.
We also have industry sessions on navigating friction in humanitarian aid payment flows and building standards into green finance, a Swift Sensemaker session that will demystify carbon credits, and the Swift Innotribe Future of Value session, which will examine the concept of value and the ethical and social implications for businesses, consumers, and society at large.
I’m really looking forward to bringing this packed programme to the Sibos community next month!
Register for Sibos 2023 today to join us from 18 - 21 September.
