A greater educational focus

With new session formats allowing for education and collaboration, ideas and solutions, this year’s conference aims to build an understanding of emerging trends across the industry. This includes the introduction of ‘101’-style educational sessions that will address blockchain and distributed ledger technology, cyber security and interoperability.

A reminder about the 2016 conference streams

The Banking stream will focus on payments and correspondent banking, with in-depth sessions exploring the challenges of operating in a highly regulated and increasingly digitised world.

Tackling one of the industry’s defining issues, the Compliance stream will provide delegates with insights into financial crime compliance and counter terrorism financing practice and policy, and also information on the tools, tactics and strategies adopted by banks and securities players.

In a technology-led industry, the behaviours and attitudes of individuals are still critical to the ability of firms to deliver value to stakeholders and customers. The Culture stream will explore the skills, practices and methodologies that will help to continue to improve cultural factors within the financial industry.

Given the regulatory environment and continued pressure on costs in the capital markets, financial institutions are more than ever considering how to collaborate in non-differentiating areas and use new technologies. The Securities stream will examine how market infrastructure operators, securities services firms, technology vendors and new service providers are collaborating and competing across the securities markets.

Exhibition

Listen to different perspectives at the Open Theatres

The two Open Theatres give exhibiting companies an opportunity to present their latest research papers, reports or case studies that are relevant to the Sibos community.

This year, 66 exhibitors will be presenting over the course of Sibos week. The sessions will be continuous, only stopping for the closing plenary. Each exhibitor will have 30 minutes to share their insight with delegates. Check out the Open Theatre programme now on the Sibos website.

Take a break at the Health Corners

Look out for the Health Corners on the exhibition floor, which will provide delegates and exhibitors with free healthy drinks and snacks. Sponsored by Six Securities Services, these stations help participants to keep their energy levels up.

The Health Corners will be open at the following times:

Monday 15:00-16:00
Tuesday & Wednesday 10:00-11:00 / 15:00-16:00
Thursday 10:00-11:00

Inject colour and creativity into Sibos 2016!

For this year’s Art at Sibos project, the Anouk Foundation’s team of artists will be working at Palexpo, creating artworks that will take shape as the week progresses.

Delegates are encouraged to visit the Art at Sibos area on the exhibition floor to feed in their ideas, and collaborate with the artists to help bring the project to life.

The Anouk Foundation is the charity partner for Sibos 2016. Watch this video to find out more about their work.

Spotlight on Geneva

What neighbourhoods should delegates visit whilst in the city,
and what’s on offer there?

The Old Town - An open air history of Geneva

The Vieille-Ville is the largest historic town in Switzerland, and is dominated by St. Pierre Cathedral, the symbolic location of the Reformation. Climb the 157 steps to the top of the tower for a unique panorama of the city.

Rues Basses - The shopping district

Rues Basses, located at the foot of the Old Town, is Geneva’s most famous shopping district. All manner of famous brands are represented along this lively street. Watch retailers, sophisticated jewelry stores, fashion boutiques and galleries are framed by the sounds of street musicians.

Quartier des Bains - A certain art de vivre

As home to MAMCO, the Centre d'Art Contemporain and numerous galleries hosting the best exhibitions, the Quartier des Bains is a leading European platform for modern art. Its hip bistros and bars add to its buzzing atmosphere.

International District - Geneva the Capital of Peace

Get to grips with the history of the international district. It is living proof of the major role played by Geneva in world affairs – and home to more than 200 international organisations.

Carouge - A Bohemian atmosphere

Just a stone's throw from the city centre, Carouge is the Greenwich Village of Geneva. Its architecture is reminiscent of its Sardinian roots and will transport you to Southern Europe. Spend time perusing the shops, shady terraces, crafts and antique dealers in Carouge's alleys and passageways.
